Today's project

A few of us neighbors are having trees taken down today. We had a one removed that was in poor shape and some dead branches trimmed. The tree guys knocked on my door with this
Apparently the nest fell out of my neighbor's tree. You may wonder how I've ended up as it's caretaker, well I'm wondering about that too. Anyway, my instructions are to put the nest in a shallow box and keep the nest warm with a heating pad. Hopefully tonight Mother Squirrel will return and take her babies. Did you know that squirrels always build a backup nest, just in case? I learned that today. Wish us luck! Update, Mama squirrel came back late in the evening and got her babies!

Some things I've been working on, and on and on

I have a lot of works in progress. Sometimes I just like to play around
When I have lots of scraps left from a particular project I start making blocks and they often become a quilt to donate. I made my son a baseball quilt and had lots of leftovers. I still have enough for one more scrappy quilt.
Ufo's ... sigh. This one isn't really my fault. It was for a family member's new baby that up until he was born, they were expecting a girl. That was a big surprise. I put the blocks aside and super quick made another quilt instead. Now they are expecting another and I got these back out. My aim is to put this together and then make a blue one, that way I'll be covered and I'll donate the other one.
Sorry about the pictures, it's another dreary day and I can't get the lighting right. My helpers are following me around today now that school has begun.

My sewing room

Moda Bakeshop http://www.modabakeshop.coml put out a call for people to show off their stash and share their sewing spaces. I've really enjoyed peeking in everyone who's linked up sewing rooms. I thought I'd share mine.
I love these metal baskets I found a few years ago at Target. I'm good at pulling stuff out, but not necessarily as good at folding it back neatly. The baskets hide much of that.
I love my cutting table. It was a freebie, plus it blocks that door, there are two ways into the room. My kids thought it was funny to come in that way and sneak up on me and scare me, blocking the door fixed that.
This is my favorite spot, it was stormy and dark when I took this picture, so you can't see that it's ground level, there are always birds chirping around there. My husband spent several weeks this summer putting in new drainage and then a garden bed. I have this vision of rose bushes to enjoy while I sew. Thanks for visiting!!

I've been working on the Paris quilt.
I wanted to finish it before my daughter moved into her dorm. And then she picked out a comforter and lamp and some fun accessories in aqua and yellow and I put it aside. Then she asked if it was ready and I told her no, but it would be soon. The definition of soon is open to interpretation. But it's all laid out, and pinned and now it's on to quilting it! Sunday I was a little down thinking about my daughter's moving into her dorm, so I decided to treat myself to a little drive and a visit to a new quilt shop Lonestar Mercantile. I shop at a smaller version of this store at our State Fairgrounds which is open on the weekend. I didn't take pictures, but here's a link heavy with pictures http://lonestarmercantile.blogspot.com. Since my two favorite local shops have shut down, I appreciated the shopping trip.

We've been busy getting our middle daughter ready to leave for college. Although it's going to be hard to see her leave it's only 6 miles away. Someone (well other than myself) is thinking about going with her.

We just got back from a vacation at the beach. I finished the binding on this baby quilt while I was there and now it's been given to the expectant mother.
My quilt holder is moving into her dorm at the end of the week so I'll be busy helping her get ready. I have some blog visiting to catch up on. In the meantime I'll try not to be daydreaming about this
We had a birthday last week here, yum. Or this
Mine's the yellow chair. I wouldn't mind be in it there right now.
