UFO's - 23 - ME - 5

Thanks to Kris and May for their Finish One Project A Month Challange (see sidebar). This month I've finished 3 UFO's - a Valentines wallhanging, a Christmas quilt and a halloween tree skirt (more about that next October). The Valentine's and the Christmas were very simple pieces - done with the main purpose of practice my free motion machine quilting. Although the main reason I bought my that Christmas flannel was because the houses on it reminded me of my house growing up.
I've spoken before about my dismal machine quilting skills and after practicing some - I think I'm getting better - progressing from dismal to so-so. But I'm happy - 3 OLD UFO's done!

Now that my Time for Tea Swap partner has gotten her package from me I can show what I sent to her. Rachel www.fourwisemonkeys.blogspot.com and I were partners, go take a look at the 'loose change' quilt she's done - it's really impressive.

Thank You Lynette

A couple of weeks ago I won a pattern give-away by Lynette Anderson www.lynetteandersondesigns.typepad.com . I promised myself that I would not touch that pattern until I finished Lynette's Noah's Ark block of the month that she has so graciously shared for the past year. So now that I've finished - here's both the Noah's Ark and the pattern. And now - I'm going to go play with this great pattern.
Thank you so much Lynette!

Happy Saint Patricks Day!

Happy Saint Patricks Day!

It is a happy day because I received my tea swap from Rachel www.fourwisemonkeys.blogspot.com .(all the way from Australia!) I love, love, love the table runner. It is so cute and looks like it was made for my kitchen. Look how perfect her piecing is. I was afraid to try this pattern and now I'm glad I didn't because I don't think mine could compare to this. And look at all the other goodies ... the beautiful pincushion with such tiny perfect stitching, the lovely tea cup fabric, the needle book and I love the pattern - it may need to go to #1 on my to do list. Thank you so much Rachel and to Stephanie www.loftcreations.blogspot.com for hosting this fun swap.

Last month's bunny block done!

Friday, March 13, 2009

I went to the big chain fabric store - When I see fabric that's more than $9.00 a yard and seems to be edging close to $10, I'm torn between my stand on supporting local business and my wallet. Plus I know the quality might not be as good if I buy at a chain. But, I have been shopping there lately. And look at these fabrics -- fresh, cute, happy and springy. They were on sale for $3.50 a yard! They had to come home with me.
It would have been wrong not to buy them ... right?

some tea love

Some tea love from Stephanie www.loftcreations.blogspot.com . Thank you so much. What a treat to find this in my mailbox!

My mother was always a very devoted tea drinker. When she got married in 1952 my Aunt made this for her and it hung in her kitchen. It was in pretty bad shape after 54 years (there was no glass over it). I used a wonderful product called 'Restoration' (purchased at my lqs). The dirt and dust immediately came off and it looked so bright and pretty that I had it framed. So now it's good for another 50 years. At my mother's funeral, a family friend mentioned that he remembered that sampler and always felt welcomed in my mom's kitchen - where they would of course inevitably have a cup of tea.
